Event Descriptions
1. Creative Expression: the performance of material written by the contestant, can be serious or humorous. 8 minutes 2. Discssion: a small group of six discusses an aspect of the topic given for the year. 3. Dramatioc Duo: two speakers perform one or more scenes from a single play, serious or humorous, with literary merit and appropriate to the readers. Source must be an actual play. 8 minutes 4. Dramatic Interpretation: a cutting from a serious published drama. 8 minutes 5. Extemporaneous Reading: prose cuttings or poetry for the chosen books for the year. Selections with introductions, 6 minutes, max. 6. Extemporaneous Speaking: a persuasive speech on current events and issues. Topics are drawn from major news sources. 7 minutes, max. 7. Great Speeches: sections from a famous speech of significance with your own analysis - must justify the greatness of the speech. 8 minutes. 8. Humorous Interpretation: a written selection intended to amuse, can be poetry, prose, or drama. 8 minutes 9. Informative Speaking: an origional speech with the intent to inform about a topic of interest to you. Visual aids are encouraged. 8 minutes 10. Original Oratory: a speech intended to be persuasive in nature and offer solutions to an important contemporary issue. 8 minutes 11. Poetry Interpretation: a poem or group of poems on a single theme, published in hard copy. 8 minutes 12. Prose Interpretation: a cutting from a story, essay, biography, or novel, serious in nature. 8 minutes. 13. Story Telling: draw a story from the selected collection for the year and re-tell it in your own words. 6 minutes, with an introduction and conclusion. |
